Common Misconceptions – Fractions, decimals and percentages Multiplying fractions leads to a smaller fraction as a result. Dividing a fraction leads to a larger result. Children confuse the numerator and denominator when comparing and ordering fractions. Common Misconception – Area and perimeter, measures and geometry That children will confuse area and perimeter. When a shape has a missing measurement, the children will just ignore the side. Children will use rulers in questions which are not drawn to scale leading to anomalous answers. Children will not ensure that all measurements are in the same unit or incorrectly convert them.
