Common Misconceptions – Calculations Formal methods may not always be the most effective, efficient or appropriate to use. Children will transpose the digits in a subtraction if the digit on top is larger than the digit on the bottom. Place value is not adhered to, particularly with decimal calculations. Common Misconception – Topic – Time and Area Inaccurate multiplications cause incorrect answers. Children do not find the area of both parts of a compound shape to add together to find the total area. Children do not know the numbers of days in a particular month or a leap year. |
